No Hill Start Assist on export RHD 2009
Hi gang, my first post, been reading the threads for some time, but only got my JK yesterday. I was actually expecting to collect a 2008, but it was the first delivery of 2009, what a bonus. BUT driving it home I thought "how does the hill start assist work?" as nothing was happening. Got the operating manual out, sure enough no mention of Hill Start Assist. I like the operating manual too, the US one I downloaded is 476 pages, the one I got with the car is 208 pages. I'm in Australia, curious to know if the UK 2009's have HSA. Safe driving all, Dave.

HIYA Dave- Welcome to the Forum. Glad to have ya join us, I don't think we have that feature on U.S. market Wranglers. Does it hold the vehicle in place ( no roll back) when stopped on a hill?

my TJ has a button on the left side of the dash; if you push it while turning the key, it bypasses the need to depress the clutch. the JK doesn't have this switch, but i believe that if you put the transfer case into 4 lo, the clutch is automatically bypassed and you can start the car without depressing the clutch. have you tried that? i don't have a manual JK, but friends that do say it will do this.......

Hi again, thanks for the welcome.
The 2009 in the US definitely is listed as having Hill Start Assist. The operating manual downloadable from the Jeep web site certainly talks about HSA.
Look at this link http://www.jeep.com/en/2009/wrangler...lity/handling/
You'll see a tab for Hill Start Assist
So for the US 2009er's, they won't roll back on hills. I reckon all the right hand drive vehicles might just roll back a bit.

From the site.
Hill Start Assist
Hill Start Assist (HSA) assists drivers when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the level of brake pressure applied for a short period after the driver’s foot is removed from the brake pedal. If throttle is not applied within a short period after the driver’s foot is removed from the brake pedal, brake pressure will be released.

Hi gang, there's no mention in the large op manaul I downloaded about being in 4WD low for HSA to work. However it describes how you can turn the HSA off. I will try this on the week-end, hopefully it might come on for me, but I'm doubting it as my op manual does not mention it. Very keen to read who's JK has it.
Thanks, Dave.
Thanks, Dave.

I have a '09 Rubi w/6sp and It has the HSA, HSA is standard equipment on the '09s. Already tried it out on a mild incline. If your're not paying attention u might not even notice if your drive a stick well and don't really need such gimmicks.

This was my reaction. They've been makin clutch equipped vehicles for how long, and people have been gettin by??? I just say learn how to drive a clutch right. If you have to rely on stuff like this, maybe you need an automatic.
