A newbie question...
As I said, I am new to the Jeep world. This is my first Jeep, and I need to know what axles and gears I have. What is the best way to find this out? I do not have the factory option sheet because I bought it used as a second owner. It is a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited X. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Jeep.com and email them and request a build sheet. It takes a few weeks. Or you can jack up your left rear tire with your tranny in neutral (chock the other tires) and count the number of rotations of the drive shaft per single rotation of the tire. about 3 1/4 rotations you have 3.21 gears, 3 3/4 rotations you have 3.73 gears, a little over 4 rotations and you have 4.10 gears.

The best way to know is a build sheet. You can make some educated guesses. For example a Rubicon has 4.10 and the six speed X has 3.21 but if you get the factory towing you get 3.73.

Like 09Rubicon said, the best way to know for sure is to request your build sheet from Chrysler. Just shoot them an email through the Jeep.com website with your VIN and they'll email you back your build sheet.
It took me a couple weeks to get mine, but I've seen other members get theirs in just a couple days.

I was at the parts counter at the Mopar shop/dealer, and with the VIN, they got my 4 page build sheet while I waited. Every spec for evrything! I figure it's in their system...

I always figured I had 3.73's (09 6spd X 2dr) because of the biggest wheels and tires that came with it. But now, after reading this, I'm pretty sure I have 3.21's... that really sucks.

Yeahh, now you got me wondering what kind of gears I have on my JK Unlimited X standard? Do I have 3.73's like you said or 3.21's?
