Default New Guy hardtop question.

I have a soft top 07 X. Love it; however, I drive 50 miles to work. Forget to radio after about 50mph. Noise is obscene. How much will a hard top reduce it.

When driving down the freeway at 70-75 I listen to my stereo with the volume set to 15 if that gives you and idea of road noise. If I bonehead putting the front hard top panels on I can get a pretty loud wind noise until i reseat them.

Default noise level

My JK with either the soft top or hardtop is 3 or 4 times quieter than my YJ ever was. the YJ was a shouter- shout if you wanted to be heard. Like Wipeout said 15 on the radio is okay on the JK.

I was speaking with my service advisor today (while getting my uConnect activated.. for free!) and he mentioned that the 07's had a noise problem because of a hollowed out area in the pillar along the side of the windshield. What they did to fix it was to take off the rubber cap and fill the pillar with expanding foam sealant. The problem was redesigned on my 08 so it wasn't supposed to be necessary any more.

My JK with hardtop is much quieter than what I was used to with my soft top TJ. However, the soft top JKs I test drove didn't seem to be much louder than the hardtop, so you might be in for a disappointment if you're hoping for a major sound reduction.

My hard top is not noticeably louder than driving in any other suv or truck. Not as quiet as a sedan but quiet none the less.
