new 3.6 and 5 speed automatic combination comments?
I'm thinking of trading my '08 JK w/6 spd. and wondering about the possibility of the 3.6 with a a 5 spd. automatic this time. Any experience or comments on this would be appreciated much. I'm thinking Rubicon unlimited. Is the 4:10 gear available? I did not like the old '08 auto trans at all. It might be nice to NOT have to shift for while. And a second thought while I'm here- has anyone heard any decent feedback on fuel mileage on a 2012, soon to be 2013?

Go drive one. The Pentastar/5 Speed auto combo is great. I've always felt my Jeeps lacked power, and after a couple test drives I felt this may be the first one that was sufficient, and I promptly ordered one (still waiting).
Yes, the 4.10 axle gearing is available, but only on the Rubicon. The Sport is offered with 3.21 or 3.73. You can also get a Rubicon with the 3.73 if you'd like.

3.6 auto is an improvement. I have the 3.6 auto with 3.73s. I'm coming from a 3.8 auto with 4.10s. The new combo makes the Jeep a totally different experience.
My mileage improved considerably over my 08, but my 08 never averaged close to 14 city as advertised. My rubicons were and are currently stock.
I'm reading Jeeps with the 3.6 and 4.10s are not needing a regear when adding 35s.

I have a 2012 JKU R and have 35s. The power is still there, although it does drop to 4th more often going up hill. I can still merge with and pass traffic at will. Mileage dropped from mid 15s to mid 14s average.

I've got the 3.6L/auto combo with 4.10's and stock Rubi tires. Acceleration is adequate....no good, not bad. it feels a little slower than the vehicle this replaced (a 2010 FX35 AWD), which in my opinion....not too bad. I had a choice of manual and auto and would have liked the extra performance of the 6sp but also realize I'm not 25 anymore and hate clutching in traffic. Maybe I'm going soft...
