For me with a 4 door I will adjust my shocks based on what we are doing and how many people will be in the jeep.
? That makes no sense, why would you adjust based on weight?

The OME's and Bilsteins have been well known for a softer ride. I went with the Bilstein 5100's which drastically improved my ride but I think the nod would go to the OME's. EVO makes plush ride coils that have a good reputation for a softer ride but I can't speak from personal experience.

I have run the nitro sport and the 5100's and the OME are definitely a softer ride on road.

I run the Fox 2.0 NON adjustable shocks with my 4" lift. I upgraded from the entry level shock that came with my Superlift package and it made a world of difference. I am happy with the Fox Shocks.

You may want to look into other avenues to plush the ride as well. I see that spring rate was mentioned already. There is also control arm length, control arm bushing material (rubber vs polyurethane), bump stop configuration (stock, air bumps, tuned rubber bumps etc). Seats may be another avenue you may want to explore.

I'm no expert but these are a few things that popped into mind.

you would adjust a motorcycle shock when you have a passenger , for a more comfortable ride , when solo

you would adjust it for preference in comfort. stiffer less chance of bottoming out

I know my jeep needs new shocks (im also sick of the awful ride) have to look into shocks but I want something that wont rot from road salt after one year ! Maybe alum. shocks would be best.

^^^agree. I've run them both and the nitro sports are definitely softer (at least on a lighter JK). That said, I hear the Ranchos are the best option for the price. Although, I did see a place that will custom valve the fox shocks and sell for about the retail price (no discount). However, you need to know what valving you want. Not a cheap process for trial and error.

Loaded with 3 passengers + camping gear + recovery gear + extra water & fuel, etc', my JKU gains at least 350kg, about 780 pounds.
For this weight difference, the ability to adjust the shocks would be a real improvement.
One of the next mods will be upgrading the Fox shocks to the Fox Dual Speed Compression (DSC) Adjuster or the Compression Damping (CD) Adjuster.
