Default Is my auto toast?

So in January my transmission slipped. It only happened once and while going up hill.

Then today it slipped again. Not a lot but it def felt like a slip.

I have 27K on the clock and my transmission fluid is a dark red/maroon color but not brown or black.

Should I have the fluid changed? Is it too late for the transmission?

What were the circumstances when you felt it slip?

Has the fluid and filter ever been changed?

Do you know if the transmission has ever overheated?

Is the fluid level up to the "HOT" mark with the engine running, and the transmission warmed up?

Color alone is not an indicator of fluid condition.

Sometimes it can seem like transmission slip when the torque converter momentarily unlocks to shift up or down, and even when you turn on the A/C.

I was driving straight had just rounded a corner from a stoplight so I was only up to about 25 MPH.

RPMs went up to about 3.5K and back down but vehicle did not feel like it increased in speed at all so it felt like a slip.

Fluid is at the proper level. AFAIK it has never overheated but the HOTOIL recall was just done to it a few weeks ago so I have no idea prior to that.

The fluid color is now dark red/maroon.

They replaced my torque converter at around 8,000 miles for the rumble strip issue and they replaced the fluid then.

I am at 27K now.

Keep a record of occurrences, including dates, mileage, and circumstances. If it is persistent, bring the list and Jeep to the dealer.
Whatever happens, you know you are covered.

So should I change fluid, or now that it's slipping is it too late for the transmission?

I don't think it's time to change the fluid yet.
Before you do anything, give the dealer a chance to look at it, and get it documented. If they think a fluid change is in order, they may do it under warranty as a troubleshooting measure.

If the transmission is slipping already wouldn't it be a good idea to change to fluid before it gets worse. Also the dealer won't be able to duplicate it since it only happened twice in three months.

It's never done it in the morning though, don't most transmissions slip first thing in the morning?

If changing the fluid and filter will make you feel better, by all means do it.
It won't hurt a thing if done, and filled, correctly.

Thanks for all your help ronjenx. Will they be able to tell what condition the transmission is in when they do the change?

If the pan is full of metal filings, they should know something is wrong.
