Default Local Garage / Mechanic Recommendation (NorthNJ)

Hey whats everyone....

I’m looking to re-gear my 2013 JKU from 3.73 to 4.10 nothing crazy since I’m not planning going larger than 35’s and my current rear 3.73 gear is failing (also read 3.73 gearing is not all that great?) . I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good JK garage or mechanic in the Northern New Jersey area. I don’t want to go to the dealership and have them overcharge me....

Thanks in advance

I've used a shop called Total Performance in Mahwah. They did my regear and all the welding work (long arms, axle truss, crossmember) on my 2012. I had heard mixed reviews about the shop but I went to meet them, I liked them and I gave them a shot. I don't think they are the cheapest out there but they've done good work for me.

3.73 gearing is great. Not sure where you heard that it isn't. 3.21 sucks, but 3.73 is really good with the stock tire size. Of course you said you have a problem, so I agree that going to a higher number is a good idea. I wonder why yours have a problem? I towed a 4000-5000 pound trailer with my 2012 with 3.73 gears and they held up great. I put 107,000 miles on that Jeep and it still drove like new.

Good thing about 3.21 with factory size tires is that I get 21 to 22 mpg, if I were to regear I would give 3.73 some serious thought as a daily driver before I went to 4 something, but I might go to 33's probably at the biggest.

Saying that, I don't know of any shops on that area, hope you find a good one

Well, bring that OP said he was going to 35s and his current setup is busted, I don't think it's a bad idea to go bigger. I have a Rubicon and I did 35s on 4.10 for a while with no problems. I bumped it to 5.13 when I did 37s and that works for me. If I were to regear for 35s, I think 4.56 might be the sweet spot there. There was no need for that step from the stock 4.10, but if they're getting changed out anyway..
