Default Lighting question...

Question, I recently noticed that one of my headlights was out, then next day it was on again... then out again. I took the bulb out, thinking that it might not have been installed incorrectly or that there was a loose wire. I found that the middle prong out of the three (when you look at the back of the bulb), was black, it looked almost burnt. I took out the other bulb out to compare, and it was not black, all three were silver, like they're supposed to be. So I decided to switch the passenger bulb with the driver side, hoping this would fix the problem. Today driving to work, the light was out again. When I got home I took it out and what do you know, now it was black. It appears that the passenger side headlight "socket" (?) is burning the middle prong, thus making the bulb fail. Anybody know what could be causing this, and/or how to fix it?? The jeep is over a year old, and this is the first time I've had an issue with this.

That "black" is the sign of a loose connection. It comes from barely making contact and driving the amperage used on the light up. It can burn out completely or cross short with the other wires and drain your battery, overload your alternator, etc.

Take it to the dealer and have them replace it if under warrantly, other wise replace it yourself. It would be a warranty problem, manufacturers defect.

Thank you, very helpful!! If I do replace it myself, does anyone know where the wires lead (where the harness connects to?)
