Here is some info Seer1 sent me for the wiring. I ended up doing a little different and wired it to the passenger side tail light, but we were completely lost until he sent me this info. It's not an official writeup because he was just going from memory (and Seer1 I thought it was fantastic but if you want me to do delete this for any reason just let me know).

I went to the local RV place and bought a 4 prong trailer plug wiring harness. It's a cheap little thing a bit smaller than 1" square and fits nicely in the female side of the OBO bracket.

It looks like this except the wires are all connected. Now tell your hubby to take a deep breath and cut off the plug that leads to the led lights on the new bracket. There will be three wires, black is ground, red goes to brake and the other blue, green or yellow goes to license plate.

Find the hot wire from the license plate light. Sorry I can't remember color, but one'll be ground and the other hot. Turn on the lights and hook your amp meter to both wires, one'll show current. Connect a wire to the hot, run it under the carpet to the right side of the Jeep. Don't worry about the ground. Dig into the tail gate (remove the plastic plate on the inside) and you should be able to find the two wires going to the brake light. Disconnect that clip. Again find the hot wire. Have someone push the brake pedal while you check for current. Run both of those wires, both hot and ground, back from the clip along the depression under that plastic plate and use a couple of zip ties to hold them to that cloth cover for the wires that goes from the tailgate to the body. You'll find that weatherstripping around the tailgate pulls off. Pull off enough to run the three wires up the side, under the that top part DON"T PULL THAT TOP PART OFF! and down to the bottom of the outside.

Pick up some of that wiring cover stuff from Home Depot -$1.99 for 10'.

It's split down one side and use it to protect your wiring from the tailgate out. Run enough wire to go up the tire carrier, through the back of the tire holder and female part of the OBO bracket. Then connect one side of that trailer plug you bought to three of the four wires. Use some heat shrink for all your connections. You'll be exposing this stuff to all the elements.

Run the wires from the plug you cut off through the inside of the male part of the bracket and leave enough sticking out the back for you to comfortably work with. Connect the corresponding colors, tuck it into the female side and you should be there. Sorry I'm tired, been a long day and I hope it all makes sense from there.

--- Hubby did my install, but if you're still stuck I can pass on the questions and try to get some answers, although I'm sure Seer1 will be hanging around this thread for first person advice.

I don't remember the wires exactly. I took off the vent on the gate, and clipped the third brake light from there. Follow the wires from the third brakelight into the gate, you'll see them as they're off by themselves. I clipped them there, and yanked them out of the factory sleeve. I reused the sleeve, undoing the factory taping/sealant, and slid the wires for the relocation bracket back thru as if it were stock.
Also ran the plate light thru that loom as well. Took off the rectangular plastic piece, and ran it along the loom along the door using cable ties. Then behind the carpet and up on top of the tub hump. Under the carpet you'll find a grommet where there loom goes thru to the passenger side brake light. Passed the wire, it's just the hot red wire, thru the grommet and down. Disconnected and removed the passenger side brake light. Used a multimeter and found 12v when the parking lights are on. There's also a lead in that connector that is about 8-9 volts. I used the 12v lead. I can check tonite for the color if you'd like.

Not the way I did it. I just used a 12v hot, when parking lights are on, from the passenger side.

Yeah, basically the license plate light comes on whenever the tail lights do so if you take the hot from the right tail light it'll do the same thing. I figured since I'd clipped the license plate light wire anyway and I already knew exactly which wire it was, it would be easier to just solder on longer wire and run it across the back of the Jeep under the carpet. That way I wouldn't be spending any time looking for that other wire.

I also don't like leaving hot wires flopping around doing nothing in my vehicles. Even taped, they always seem to find some way to get into trouble.

Dan,
I just saw that you PM'd me about this. If these posts don't answer your questions let us know.

BTW, on lights a ground is a ground. You could even ground that light bracket to a screw you run into the body (making sure you've got some clean metal there.) The brake and stop light are happy sharing the same ground wire.

I just used the ground from the brake light on the tailgate because, again I was lazy and already knew where it was.

I got mine on last night with just the running lights hooked up...

I need some help with which wire goes to the 3rd brake light? The back of the light assy has a white wire with yellow stripe, but the harness under the plastic cover does not have a white wire with a yellow stripe...

Anyone know which color the 3rd brake light is on the harness behind the plastic cover on the tailgate?

Bryan.
I was thinking about it, but it doesn't look bad in black.

It's been a while, but I remember two wires. One was black -ground and the other was...pink? But it was the hot one. You can also pull power from right hand tail light fairly easily. Just ground a test light and have someone step on the brake pedal until you poke the right wire.
