Default Leaking Axle Seal

Hi guys, I have been noticing some leaks after my car sits for a bit by the axle knuckle. Under inspection it appears the outter seal is not fully seated as seen in the picture. Would this cause the leak or is this an indication the inner seal is bad ?

That plastic disc isn't a seal. It just keeps out the big stuff.

First thing to do is check the fluid level in the differential.
Next thing is clean off all the dirt and oil residue, and keep an eye on it. Your picture is so close, it's hard to see if the oil is from another source.

I had the same thing 10 years ago. After checking the oil level and cleaning, it has had no sign of leakage since.

If it is indeed an inner axle seal leak, I advocate for the newer style seal. I don't know when they started but I've found them on 2016 and up models. They seal against the axle shaft better in my opinion.
