As for DC designers/engineers knowing what they are doing? That is not true, designers can design the most capable off-road Wrangler, but it would probably have to cost three times as much as it does now. Accountants and profit drive a company to use a recycled mini-van engine, cheap tires and wheels, cheap plastic, and cost cutting paint techniques.
I, for one, am damned pleased with the trade-offs Jeep made! Where others see a "recycled mini-van engine," I see a very reliable, smooth, more powerful engine that has survived intense mommy neglect. Where others see "cheap plastic," I see a very low maintenance interior that will NEVER need armor all. The need for a classy paint job isn't even on my radar. And I don't see anything wrong with my Rubi wheels/tires. Bottom line: I got one helluva stock Jeep for the price of a generic, drool-producing (in a bad way) family sedan.
And to get back on topic, no problems here. Just lots of smiles -- nothing beats a radio blaring while cruising the coast!

10K so far and knocking on wood...
Just passed the 10K mark, and still no problems or recalls yet...it still gets off-roaded at least once a week...right now, it's filled with 18 full body goose decoys and a raft of hunting crap...my only problem is that I got a little blood stain from a six pointer in the back that leaked thru the tarp I had underneath it...she goes thru the swamps, woods and fields like my other 6 Wranglers and CJs, only with a lot more room inside...yee haa! ain't life GREAT?
