Jk towed from rest stop after smoking and rumbling without key in ignition

Yes its possible that the starter solenoid got "stuck." Ford had a problem with ignition switches a few years ago and they would stick on and leave the vehicle c ranking and if you had enough battery it would crank until everything got so hot it would burn the truck to the ground (or car..it crossed models) and sometimes the garages or houses they were in. Hope they figure it out and dont just put a bandaid on an artery

Well, just got done speaking with the service manager and they didnt recieve the part in today so the soonest it will be is tom, Thursday the 20th. Once again I am lucky my Jeep died 30 miles from my destination and not 400 away from anywhere I was familiar with since I have been without a Jeep for now 4 days going on 5. Speaking of which where can I send a letter/e-mail to Chrysler to let them know about my situation. Im trying to stay positive about the whole situation but its getting harder and harder.

I might be wrong on this because I don't think I remember it correctly but when I bought the jeep there was this yellow card for free towing and I believe there's some sort of trip interruption thing from Chrysler ($500.00 I think) Check your paperwork & w/the dealer see what thay say about it. I know $500 is not a lot but maybe it'll make you feel better.

This is actually the third Jeep Ive bought from Cross Motors in Louisville which has been great up until this year with their service department. In the most recent trip to get service done I went to Bales in Indiana and worked with a gentleman named Sonny who has been very helpful. This time however with the whole thing with the lights has been in New Orleans at a dealership I have yet to actually step foot on. I have done everything over the phone since Im actually a little more then 30 miles away (closest dealership to where my Jeep broke down).
Was it Sonny Flink? This is who I bought mine from. I have known him for years. He is great guy to deal with. I play golf with him weekly. I live in Lexington.

Not sure of Sonnys last name. He works in the service department of Bales and not the sales....could still be the same guy.

It can't hurt anything to call.
Good luck with this.

Thanks for all the info. I will definately be asking the dealership working on my Jeep tomorrow if the heat shield was installed, and I will be sure to let you know the outcome. Thanks again.
