But that really should have nothing to do with the idle. Why would it change no matter how I drive? Idle is idle, right? I don't think I idle it any differently than anyone else. At throttle it runs fine with no misses, no surging. That tells me that the ignition is good and the fuel delivery is good. All that leaves is air. A small vacuum leak usually won't impact drivability but will mess with the idle. It also got worse the longer I had it telling me that the computer was trying to compensate for something and wasn't able too.

You have to define rough. Rough to me means misfire. If you are talking about shaking that is imbalance from all the piston weights going up and down and how the counterweights are set up to counteract these forces. Hats why some engine have balance shafts in them for the counteract these forces. I don't know if our engine has them.
Anyway mine does not have any misfire so I would not consider it rough running.
Cold start is another issue, but they retard the spark and do all kinds of funky things to get the cats lit and keep the engine running. A significant amount of emissions are from cold start up and calibrations are done for good starting, minimizing emissions and fast combustion chamber warm up.
