Default I need help with my 4 wheel drive shifter that I somehow broke

I got my first jeep about 4 weeks ago a 2008 Sahara. I was playing around with my 4 wheel drive shifter while i was waiting on someone late Saturday night. I got it to go in 4 lo and I was trying to get it back in 2 wheel drive. it got stuck in 4 N and would not budge I pushed a little harder and here'd a little snap. How is the jeep is stuck in neutral and I cannot get it to go back into 4 Wheel Drive or 2 Wheel Drive Today after doing some research I found out what might be the problem. I tried removing the Center console the two screws in the front in the two in the back in took emergency brake lever all the way up but I only get console to come up just a little not all the way. Can any body help me with removing the center console? I was able hold the center console up just enough to see the problem. The shifter was held to a cable by a piece of black plastic that is broke. Is there A quick fix to this problem or do they sell that part at the auto part store?

You have to pull the e-brake handle way up to get it to clear. Also have to take off shifter knobs if you haven't. Idk if they sell the clips at auto parts stores but I would think they would. I have heard the dealership sells the clips for cheap. The transfer case side clip was broke on mine when I bought it, made the dealer fix it. Clip on the shifter handle side broke the other day on me, I just used a heavy duty zip tie for now. Going to replace with Advance Adapters heavy duty cable someday.

That is not an uncommon problem.
Most likely out is the plastic clip that holds the cable to the linkage. There is a little white tubular clip that holds it together and it breaks. There is a quick temp fix that you can do with a Zip-Tie.

Check out this link to another thread all about it.

I did both of those things. 2 screws in the front 2 screws in the back pop the shifter knob off and lift the e break to the max. It comes up really high about a foot in the back at the console and a couple of inches in the front and I can not get it to budge any more. Am i just missing a step? I will try again in the morning when i have day light and I can see better.

Does it seem loose? You have to bring the back up first and have the console lid almost touch the roof. Then the front should be able to clear the dash. I have found that its easier to have the 4wd shifter in 4 low so it's farther back, and have my standard shifter in 2, 4, 6, or R to put it farther back. Automatic would be in drive or 1,2, or 3 to put it farther back. Seems like it helps to have the shifters back to pull them out of the console as you lift it up. Then you can sort of rotate it out towards one side or the other to be able to get it out of the vehicle and clear the dash.

If its an auto it might be a little different, I'm not sure, mine is a 6 speed standard.

Ok guys I finally figured out how to remove the console. This morning I tried prying up the cup holders and stuff the black part of the console first after that it was much easer getting the rest off. I need a plastic pry bar in steed of risking scratching the plastic with the flat head screwdriver. anyway I was able to sucre the 4 wheel shifter to the cable with a zip tie. I was able to shift it back in 2 wheel drive. I will order the part and a few extra spares tonight. Thank you guys for your help.
