Sorry, kidding.

Get a shop towel or bath towel, a 8" crescent wrench and a hammer.

- Engage the E-Brake and shift the transfer case to Neutral.
- Open the Crescent and lay a part of the towel on the jaws.
- Put the jaws on the metal of the shifter shaft and close the jaws to kind of snug. Not tight. The towel is there so you don't scratch the paint on the shaft or the plastic on the shifter.
- Drape the rest of the towel on top of the knob or have someone rest a hand on the knob. This will prevent the knob from flying up.
- With the hammer hit the bottom of the crescent wrench. It will come loose on the third hit.

The first hit won't be hard enough. The second hit will be harder but still not quite. Now that you are adequately angry at the knob and the situation...The third hit will pop it loose.
Unbelievable! Once again, this forum saved me time, aggravation, and probably a hernia at some point! haha I was ready to hack my shift knob off with a sawzall after pulling and pulling, but the crescent wrench, towel and hammer worked in about 10 seconds! I got a set of Drake Off Road knobs for Christmas and this was a huge help! Thank you to whoever wrote this!! Merry Christmas to all!

This is what I did when i was removing my center console.

I think the key is a hard quick jerk ( hah ), almost like a snapping motion. I didn't need any tools...

If u just gently pry this lower locking ring off and slide it down the knob comes right off with NO excessive pulling or tugging

Ya wont bust ur lip this way and easily comes off

wasnt the case on mine. I removed the bottom part and the retainer and still had to pretend i was lifting the jeep form under me. I had a 3lb hammer and crescent wrench and it was damaging the bottom so I hulked it.
