Default How sensitive are stock driveshafts?

My rear driveshaft has a corkscrew gouge in it.... Is this enough to throw it off balance?

Until you pull off a weight, I wouldn't worry.

think I could've pulled a weight off? There's a deep hum over 65mph

Anything is possible, I just don't think it's likely. I've not got many weights on my driveshaft, certainly no more than you do.

What else could have contributed to your deep hum?

...not sure but it was certainly related to a rough trail ride so I'm leaning towards something damage related and not tire wear

if it was damage to the drive shaft you would have a fairly high frequency vibration that would vary with vehicle speed.

Saw your post in my other DS thread. Did you end up ripping the boot there at all? Was just thinking if you had a rip, it might have part of the boot catching some wind or whipping around causing that noise. The noise is def not due to scraping up the DS. If the DS was no longer balanced, you'd surely feel the vibration in your rear as others have already pointed out.

Check your pinion bearing. Mine was bad and it produced a similar hum at 60-70 mph.
