How bad are burnouts?

The theory behind the rolling start burnout is great!! But not an option for an underpowered/over-tractioned jeep! You are way more likely to stall it and look like an ass than to provide a positive burnout experience. It doesn't have enough bottomend power to break the tires loose after rolling like that.

Then, after that expensive journey back to feeling like a kid again, you can shop for new tires (and rear brake pads) in the adult world.

is it bad to do? If your on a high traction surface probably.
If i do a burn out i wait for mud/gravel or oil slicked parking lots (when it first rains and its slick) You can get a good burn out then without the ESP. with stock 3.73 gears on 35" DC Crushers i was able to smoke them once. i wouldnt do it all the time only when i get the itch to do something young and foolish. I only droped the clutch once and i wont do it again it smelled horrible of burning clutch plate.
