"HOT OIL" MESSAGE, fluid boiling out of dip stick tube causing fire!!!

call the dealership and Chrysler Customer service and record the conversation - cover the original conversation to see if they confirm it and ask how long this has been an issue.
Then file a complaint with a copy of the recording to:
https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm
For the dealership, contact your local news agency ans see if they have a consumer watchdog reporter that would be interested in the story.
Amazing what can be accomplished when they try to hide from news coverage.

And FWIW, I would never have an automatic transmission in any 4WD vehicle.

The thread where someone got Chrysler to pay for the cooler;
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...ooler+chrysler
Apparently after a recall letter.

I went the route of going through the customer service after I was told by one dealership to buy and install and aftermarket oil cooler. Needless to say they have offered to pay for half of the install... which would leave me with a $233 bill with the local dealer. And that only having a factory installed unit would not void my warranty.
I do not remember the exact code that mine threw, but the service manual that the dealer uses tells the service tech to install a trans oil cooler.
Needless to say, I asked why they would offer to pay for half of the install? If there is a problem then they need to fix it 100% not have the customer pay for half of it. I asked her if I declined now, and got a hot oil light tomorrow, what would they do? Then I told her that I had less than 200 miles on my jeep when I got the light which is BS and I now 3k miles and that I bought the extended warranty. After the factory warranty was up, I could fry two transmissions and still be $33 ahead.
now now, before the flaming begins, I fully know that I can order a nice B&M cooler online for under $100, but why should I? How many people with a Chevy, Ford, Toyota, whatever buy a new car and are told within their first 3k miles that they have to install a cooler that cost $466 for the dealer to install... but they where going to help you pay for half cause they are good guys.

No it's not that I don't believe you. It's that I can't believe a Chrysler would tell you something like that. I can't believe you would call and they would tell you that or that they would even recommend it. That is not their job to recommend. I guess I should have phrased that different. Sorry if I came across that way. Whatever though make sure you get it to the dealer and get it documented on paper. Especially the part about them wanting you to install an aftermarket cooler. Maybe that is the new thing with Jeep. They know they have this problem so if they tell people to go out and install the cooler and the end result is a fire they could say it was because of the oil cooler being installed or improper installation, etc. Getting the blame off their backs. Good luck!
So if everyone will just bitch to jeep we may get somthing done about this concern.

It is illegal, in some states, to record a phone conversation. In others it is illegal to record it without the consent of both parties. I could caution against doing this. If documentation is required, then safer to do it in writing.

Now, I'm not saying you won't be able to get more, but I am letting you know what many folks have already done trying to get this resolved. You'll probably need more than a repeat performance (minus the burning JKs) from the past couple years to get blood from this turnip. If you think about it, if a JK burns up because the individual did not have the recall performed, or the individual ignored the hot oil warning, Chrysler will not be found at fault. Once again, for most folks who totally lost their JKs, the response from Chrysler was to advise them to contact their insurance agent. That means each one of them is out the hassle, the possible increase in rates, and the insurance deductible.
I'm not trying to defend Chrysler here; I think their response is pitiful. However, I am suggesting to you that you may be stuck with the deal they've offered you.

Deathboy, I did not mean to come off like an ass, Sorry!, You have know idea how shocked I was while speaking to Chrysler customer serv. I am a service advisor and have been one for over 24 yrs. I was dumbfounded at what they were telling me. I know how the system works and this was not normal! I was orignally going to install the trans cooler but than said screw that this is their design flaw not mine! I will still enjoy the Jeep and what it is designed for. I love this Jeep but I will not succumb to them telling me that their design flaw is my problem not theirs!
So if everyone will just bitch to jeep we may get somthing done about this concern.

"pissing into the wind"
Just to make certain that you're aware that everyone affected did file complaints. There were reports of JKs burned to the ground to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Chinese government banned the import of JKs until the issue was resolved. Chrysler's response to the NHTSA investigation was the tranny hot oil light (while the Chinese got a proper tranny cooler).
