Default Hood Screws

Hello! I picked up a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The screws next the the vent on the hood are rusting. 2 out of 4 are rusting. It’s also turning whiteish underneath.

What screws do I need to buy? That won’t rust. How do I get ride of the white film underneath?

Thanks for the help.

Those definitely shouldn't be rusting, so I'm guessing previous owner must have replaced them with some aftermarket screw for whatever reason. I believe the proper part number for the factory screw there is 6509190AA. They should have a small washer that goes with them, but not certain if that is included with new screw. I don't see it as a separate part though. Looks like #2 in this diagram -

I'd bet there is no way they are covered under warranty. We don't have winter related issues here in Texas, so maybe that is why I don't see it, but I don't recall ever reading anything about it. I guess if you think those are factory screws that are rusting, you might be just as well off running to Ace or local hardware store and buying something there and saving a couple bucks. I'd bet that is one of those items that cost almost as much to ship as the part itself.

@Rednroll - do you have this issue as well since you're up there in Michigan?

Take one out and swap out with new from local hardware store. Use a small thing nylon washer underneath to prevent marring the paint.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try at a local hardware store.

I would take them out, hit them with a wire brush, spray them black again and reinstall with a nylon washer underneath.
