Hood Latches

I installed the OEM hood lock. It reduced the amount of hood lift by 1/2. It could be reduced further by tweaking the lock tab. I have not bothered to do that because at 1/2 the lift, it doesn't startle me at all.

I had the Mopar hood lock installed on delivery, so I can't compare it to the original. There is still some pucker factor. I think it may be a little stronger so it might be a good safety "chain".

for those that have "fixed" the problem by removal of the spring, if you drove through my neighborhood today during:
"HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 AM PDT WEDNESDAY
UNTIL 10:00PM PDT,"
you'd know why it doesn't work for us out here in the mojave
I reinstalled my daystars, they'll have to do for now.

7. The zip-ties totally fix the problem. However, cheap zip-ties will break under extremely heavy loading, especially if over-tightened. Buy high quality zip-ties and install them with the proper amount of slack (if it's too hard to latch the hood, then you have the zip-tie too tight).

I did the zip tie trick and it worked fine. I bought the daystars anyway. They aren't rubber--they're some kind of polyurethane.
They are really tight in the beginning, but they get somewhat easier to latch. So far I haven't heard them getting as loose as the factory rubber ones.

I used two vise grips. Attach them with the tops away from the body.
I twisted back and forth and the connectors wouldn't break. So I got some cutting dykes and popped off the front caps. I think that I probably loosened the caps from the shafts by twisting them first though.
If you are careful, you don't need to remove the mounts from the Jeep.
