Default Air hammer.

Put the nut back on a couple turns (so you do not damage the threads on the axle), put the hub on a vice & use an air hammer w/ short bursts. I'm sure you noticed the dimple on the end of the axle? If you have a very dull point on the "punch" even better. DON'T FORGET EYE PROTECTION!

Um, have you tried a hub puller. That's what the dimple is for.

A press is the best option.

Yes.

and yes it is.

Time is $$$$! The air hammer cuts down in time. Why would a shop spend 5 min. when it can be done in 2?

I know it's been a while, but I thought I would update this thread. I took the axle half shaft to a local place (I miraculously found one) and they pressed it out for me. They said it took 12,000 pounds of pressure. I don't think I could have done that with any pullers, hammers, etc.

Thanks for the help.

Dawn,

Since it was that tight I'd of worked on it with some sandpaper and lubricated it before the insertion.

When it comes to things like that you either need the right tools yourself or have a guy that has the right tool to suit your needs.
