Default Heater fan problem

Hey guys my heater blower started acting up a couple of days ago.Every once in a while when I start my jeep the fan doesn't work at any speed,or if it is working and I change the speed setting it stops. If I stop the engine and cycle the key a couple of times it starts working just fine.Oddly this started happening right after I had the oil changed at the dealer.I don't know if they flashed the computer to reset the oil light and something screwed up somehow?Could it possibly just need a reflash???

Try disconnecting the positive battery lead for 10 minutes & then re-connect it; this will re-boot the PCM, in the same way as doing a full shutdown & restart on your computer instead of just putting it into standby will completely re-boot Windows

Don't work on the positive lead while the negative lead is still connected.

Disconnect the negative lead to do the re-boot thing.

Oh yeah I meant negative, well spotted ronjenx; touching the neagtive-earthed frame or bodywork with the positive battery lead or component wiring can fry stuff!

Yes. No need to remove both.

I had a heater fan in my old Suburban that needed to be whacked with the ice scraper when it stopped spinning. Bad spot on the motor windings I guess.

I had the same problem and the solution was a new TIPM. My fan would cut in and out or not work at all, it would work again after I would shut the Jeep off and restart it. After testing the fan motor (checked out fine) the control panel (was OK too) I gave up and dealt with it. A year later my jeep went electrically crazy, horn turned on, wiper blades and washer went crazy, radio flipped out all while driving down the street. Dealer said the TIPM shorted out/went bad and they replaced it. That was almost a year ago and haven't had 1 problem with the blower fan since then.

It could be the switch too though.
