Hard-Top Bolt Hole Cracks???
Hello All,
We just got our 13' JKUR and I have been dreaming and scheming of all the upgrades and mods I want to do. In my searches I have came across a few sites that offer thick washers for the hard-top as a crack-prevention. I only plan on running the hard-top through the winter months, so the top will be on and off annually. Is this a real problem or is this an over-tightening result? I want to know so I can put prevention measures in place before it happens. What are the torque specs? I couldn't find anything in the manual and I don't have the DVD manual with me that has more info...
Your experiences and knowledge is appreciated.

There are parts available that spread the load of the bolt head.
Tighten the side bolts, from front to rear, to 13.5 ft. lbs.
On four door models, tighten the front top bolts to 7.5 ft. lbs.

I also put down a thin foam weather strip on the sealing area where the top/Jeep contact point is so that a tight seal is made without over tightening the bolts, and yes fender washers are used also.

Thanks for the replies... I wasn't really asking what the purpose of the washers/plates was for, but if the cracking was a common issue that I needed to protect myself against or if they were marketed towards the over-tighteners and/or paranoid people like me.
By the number of quick replies it sounds like I should get some.
Thanks again!

As long as you dont over tighten then its a pointless purchase. I have a top that is now 4 years old with cracks. slow and steady. no need to ratchet it down super tight to the point of causing stress fractures
