Default Getting into 4wd?

Okay so I just got my Jeep and I was messing around with it today and I cannot for the life of me get the darn thing in 4wd (either of them). I have it in Park, anything else I need to do?

Dumbest question on this forum probably, go ahead quote me lol.

Have you tried reading the book that came with your Jeep. A lot of good info in there.

Try doing it while you are moving forward. If you force it while stopped, you are going to break a retainer clip on the transfer case cable.

Yea, Shift tranny into neutral if u have auto and when u r rolling 2-3 mph (no more) then try putting it in 4wd low. Should slip right in. I think once u use it a lot it starts to get easier and eaiser, at least mine did. I ahve manual and u have to be moving very slowing for it to go in easy. I just slow way down to a crawl, shift into neautral or just push clutch in and then shift. Make sure u r going less than 5mph or u will mess stuff up.

Had the same thing with my 4WD on my 2010 the first time engaging it from 2HI to 4HI. The next moring I tried rolling 2-3 MPH and poped it into 4HI, worked great. I have an auto tranny, while moving 2-3 MPH I was in the drive position. After a couple of times durring the past few days, she goes into 4HI real smooth with very little effort. When pulling from 2HI to 4HI you need to have steady pressure " no yanking". Do not force it, You will end up being stranded due to the cable breaking inside the console or under the Jeep itself from the transfer case, unless if you read the threads on here and cary the right parts " Fixing the cable yourself" you will need to call for a tow.

Now I engage 4WD on a rainy day for a couple of miles once a month to lube all the parts.

P.S.- Never engage 4WD on dry pavement, damage will result.

The manual should also state that you can only do this if you're going down hill
