If jeep makes the IFS control arms of aluminum there is the weight savings. Another direction jeep can go is cutting drag. Make the frontal area and airflow smooth and carlike will gain 10 mpg. But not too many will like that look, I know I wouldn't.

drag, is created behind the vehicle. They would need to lose square front and rear. Spoiler dropping below the front axle, smooth out the undercarriage, taper the rear, change out square for trapezoidal.

If aero were the way to mpg. In short; the equivalent of this.
