"foam Kit" from TSB on leaky tops
#31
Mine had a minor leak over the door handle on one side. I installed a few pieces of black marine and automotive weather strip (1/4" from Home depot) where the foam was compressed and it appears to be water resistant now. I tested it during the rain today both parked and while moving.
The first time I noticed this I adjusted the door surrounds and adjusted the soft top but the foam gets compressed over time and the leak appears again.
I decided to do it myself to avoid any damages from the dealer. It is still under warranty but I prefer to do it myself!
I hope this is useful. Just follow the original foam outline and add a piece where you see the foam being compressed.
The roll is about $2.60 MD brand

I had the TSB performed on my JK last week at the dealership. I washed my car after wheeling this weekend and NO leaks.
One of the ways I know its working is that now I see for the first time, the wrath of the waterfall when opening the door. I guess that water used to just pour inside my jeep. Now it stays high until I open the door.
I am much happier now though.
Free from the tarp at last!

Typically, it is not the top that is the problem. It is usually the header seal. Water seeps in the gap in the front and then follows a path to the weak door seal/header intersection. Sometimes it get's in between the top and the seal and does the same thing. The root of the problem is the header seal and the top being in plane with it as opposed to being on top like all previous Jeeps and most convertibles. It's the kind of problem that is a design error or weakness depending on your perspective. The dealers are stuck dealing with a difficult/impossible thing to fix.
