Default First oil chane on the 3.6

I just did my first oil change on my 2015 wrangler. When I drained the oil a little less then 5 qrts came out. I change it with 2500 miles on it. Is there a whole qrt still in the engine and all the piping that doesn't drain or is it burning oil already? Thanks.

Hard to say, but there are already reports of the 3.6's burning excessive oil. I dealt with this on my 07, and won't be happy if my 15 does the same. I would definitely keep an eye on the dipstick, and if it drops in the next 1000 miles, take it to the dealer.

The same thing happened to me and I freaked out. I came running to this forum screaming for help. I was basically told that some burns up and some doesn't come out. You'll see it shouldn't need all 6 qts of new oil. Probably 5.5-ish. Put in 5.25 and keep checking it add a little, etc.

I never get more then 5 out on a change, and only get 5 back in. Neither of my 2012's ever burn any oil in the 8K intervals.

I must be the freak of the bunch. I get 6 quarts out and put 6.1quarts back in every time. 38k miles on the motor and no issues.

I've been following this forum for 3 yrs. I have not been seeing posts about 3.6's burning oil. Where is your information coming from? My 2012 doesn't bun any. 55,000 miles. Change every 5,000.

I had been putting 6 in without measuring. Then I found some motor oil on the air filter. Took it to dealer and they said it was overfilled. Now I measure. One variable: exactly how much oil is in the containers you buy. If each one has a little more or a little less it can add up over 6 containers.

Just google it, the issue is there. Seems to be more common with those who run synthetic oil. I really hope these issues don't become common as they did with the 3.8..

to get a full drain, I drop the plug as well as open the dip stick, filler cap and remove the filter. I then pour half qt of Dino to flush out the remaining dirty oil in the pan. I close everything back up, refill with Mobil 1, 6.1 quarts exactly, run it for 5 minutes, check my dip stick and always at the perfect fill.

Been running Mobil 1 since 2k miles, change at every 3k. No issues.

As for my method, I've done it this way for years, with every vehicle I own. I've never had a motor problem. We keep our vehicles for about 10 years/100-150k miles and not once needed any type of rebuild on the motor. Out of my own curiosity, I've had compression tests done as well with a few and still, no signs of any ill function.

Until I get or see a problem, I'm sticking with my method. It seems to work, no problems ever crop up, and the "too frequent" oil change doesn't bother my head or my pocket.
