NUMBER: 06-004-07
GROUP: Clutch
DATE: October 26, 2007

SUBJECT:
Squeak-Like Sound Due To Manual Transmission Clutch Disc

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the manual transmission clutch disc.

MODELS:
2007 - 2008 (JK) Wrangler

NOTE: This bulletin applies to Wrangler vehicles equipped with a 3.8L engine and manual transmission (sales codes EGT and DEH respectively), built on or before February 28, 2008 (MDH 0228XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a squeak-like sound from the transmission clutch. This sound will occur when there is a change in engine torque. The squeak-like sound can be heard most often during: clutch engagement, acceleration (tip-in), and/or deceleration
maneuvers. This condition may be due to the clutch disc internal components.

"...built on or before February 28, 2008..."

So they're planning to continue installing defective parts until 2/28/08?!?!? I just ordered one and had hoped that the squeak would have been fixed by then...

Default Mine was replaced 3500 miles ago...

and haven't had any more issues. Squeek started for me at 1000 miles, got tired of hearing it at 3000 miles. Dealership replaced the clutch assembly. Now at 6500 miles and no squeek to date, runs great. If it's done right, should take care of the problem.

Question about the squeek:

Is it just a noise, or is there a mechanical defect that may cause problems down the road. I can barely hear it sometimes, and it doesn't bother me. I don't want the dealer to tear into it if it's just a little noise.

I called my dealership to get an appointment for the G40 recall and while on the phone I also mentioned the squeak and the associated TSB for this and they acted as if they were totally unaware of the problem and the TSB. How is this possible? Are some service departments just so out of it or are they playing dumb? If this squeak isnt going to cause any damage I too would just as soon they don't mess with it.

Yahoo!! Finally that chirp was starting to drive me crazy. I was very reluctant to let the stealership rip into it to try and find the problem. I sure hope this it the permanent fix.
