factory hard top or bestop hard top

It's pretty labor intensive installing the hardtop wiring harness for the defroster and wiper. I had one added to my 2007 by the dealer because they swapped a hardtop onto my Jeep and I paid for dual tops. It was about a 4-6 hour job and you have to get the new wiper stalk on the steering column. Luckily it was covered by the dealer, I never could have done it on my own.

the worry that people seem to have with soft tops are as follows
- less insulation, not allot less but still less.
- rear window get very dirty and cannot be cleaned as easily as glass
- some people have had their plastic side windows crack in extreme cold
- some worry about the weight of snow on the top when left overnight in a storm (never read about a case were the roof actually gave way)
if i were u i would try a winter with a soft top. if it unbearable and u want a hard top it is much better to buy at the begging of summer as pre winter they sell for more.

I have had the Freedom Top on all of my JKs and love it. The two front panels come off quick for short trips sort of topless and when you park it, you can snap them back in for a little more security when parked. Much easier and a little more secure than the soft top with zip out windows. My old Tj hardtop sucked all on or all off.

FWIW, iv got an 09 and take the front tops off often.
When I put them back on, I dont use all the holders that
hold the top on and have nt had any leaks with mine.
