Yesterday, a question was asked from a friend of mine. If a window can be broken, and a theif climbs in, rips off of few things then leaves without setting off the alarm because the doors were not opened. His question was, if the alarm is set, can the hood be raised without setting off the alarm ? I answered with I don't know without trying it.
I also have a grand cherokee and found out that the rear hatch was not connected to the oem alarm system. Had to have pins added when installing an aftermarket auto start 3-4 years ago. So it seems they all have flaws. It's more of a conveinance of unlocking the doors electronically than protecting one's personal belonging's.
Then he asked me if I set the alarm when the doors are off. I said I never have, what would be the purpose. Does anyone know if this works ? I thought the doors had magnetic sensors. So if the doors are off, the circuit is broken and thats why I don't set the alarm.

That is a problem and reason I am considering a 2 way alarm system is the hood. The alarm does not go off with the stock alarm set and someone opens the hood and the thieves can disconnect the battery very easily. The alarm does not go off either with the doors off as the circuit is broke.

How is this possible?

Oh and did I mention? The ass-clowns also stole my gf's Cherokee!!!!! Granted it did not have an alarm.

Anyone have any ideas? I know I am not the first to have this issue.
Thanks.

My jeep has been broken into twice in the last 6 months. Both times they have just smashed the window. Neither time has the alarm gone off. Luckly for me they have not opened the door. I have since installed a home security system with night vision cameras. Next time it happens i will find them before i give the tape to the police.

Ok, aside from towing your jeep how else can a thief steal it? If the thief can send the fob signal from some device, can they just hot-wire the jeep and drive away?

A co-worker tripped it trying to roll up my windows because i was away from the office and it was rianing. some good it does when i have electric windows and they key with me....
