My best anti-theft device has been the choice of my paint color and leaving on the stock wheels and tires. Thieves do this then this then walk away.

I've heard they recommend this because the door switch doesnt arm the alarm in most vehicles.

I have seen way to many ways that people can break into cars. There was even one video online of people useing a tennis ball to get a car door to open.

I personally put a hood lock on my Jeep right when I got it as one level of security, but from everything I have seen the stock alarm isent doing much.

Rapidfire + all, has anyone found a hood lock that works and functions properly ?

I hear the Mopar hood lock is easy to get into, and I bought and threw away Rugged Ridge hood lock. Only locking device I've seen so far that kept the hood locked was old school : on this forum (forget who) a wire cable wound around the hood lock finger and the frame rail, and secured with a mini padlock.

Anyone else ?

Default Ravelco install

I'm having the Ravelco installed in my JK this weekend. I'll give my 2 cents on the install and ease of use once it's installed.

How much is it?
I think Ravelco is a great product. But too much money.

With AAA discount and so cal tax it's $460 installed, lifetime warranty. Cheapest lo-jack is $700, plus subscription fees and no guarantee of what condition it will be found in. Any decent alarm is already $299-$399 +labor and in the Jeep's case a bypass module which is another $100ish. Any electronic alarms are still defeat-able the same way the factory one can be defeated.

My main concern at this point is I don't want a thief to just drive off in my Jeep. The Ravelco will take care of this issue. Might I supplement it down the road with an additional alarm to prevent petty theft and vandalism? Perhaps, but first an foremost for me is they just can't drive away with it, like my GF's Cherokee.

$460 on a 30K+ Jeep seems an ok investment to me

Ravelco has proved the best immobiliser type security device available right now. It is WELL worth the price for peace of mind !!!!! And you're paying for a 4-hour install, and wiring completely hidden same as stock.

Have you thought about where the installer will place it ? On JK's i've seen the Ravelco often placed on left of the steering wheel where off-road light switches are usually placed, but I got the installer to put it under and to the right of the steering wheel so I retain the plug on a short plastic flex chain connected to my key ring and ignition key. Much better placing IMO.
