I have recieved an email (which I have since erased) , and it said that theives can now get your fob signal and reproduce it via electronic scanner. They just wait for you too use it then blamo, they've got you. It recomended that you lock the doors manually which sucks because now you wont have any warning if someone opens the door.

What you need or must have is a secondary alarm system Ie: Viper etc. Viper's are nice because you can tack on an auto start function and window opening device. There are others that will do the same.

I learned this the hard way of course. I had a 2005 Harley Davidson Ford F250 truck stolen right in front of my house one night. I had the key fob thing and thought that was an alarm. NO IT IS NOT. They were on camera doing this too. They pulled up next to the truck. They used a signal generator, 20 seconds later I see the cab light go on, the guy jumps into the truck, 10 seconds later he's driving it away.

It's that easy.
So what's the difference between the Jeep factory alarm and a Viper system(or any other aftermarket alarm)?

Why exactly is the factory alarm inferior?

Now that I have a hard top with power everything i hope the little red blinky light does the trick hahaha.

Im thinking about getting these though.... they need another key but i can just keep that in the center console. They look like the best hood locking option in my book and they still look stock...ish.

I gave up on Alarms, Since I had my Jeep I just leave the doors unlocked. No broken windows or doors. ( Very Expensive ) I had a time when I know somebody was in the Jeep but they did not get anything. I don't leave anything in the vehicle for them. As I travel I may have to kick a Bum out for sleeping in it.

I am looking into a product called Ravelco. It won't keep them from stealing stuff out of your jeep, but according to the information on their site, your Jeep isn't going anywhere without the key. I am planning on using the Tuffy Security Deck to secure the trunk area and the Tuffy Flip and Lock cover for my nav system.

Like others have said, it's not going to stop a determined thief. My goal is to make it more difficult to break into / steal from me than some other car around me.

The Ravelco website is informative. Just google search the company name.

Cheers!

I've been looking at it as well. I already have the Tuffy Security deck and the Tuffy full console(just wasn't locked at the time due to the hardtop being on-lesson learned).

You should edit your post before the mod sees it, no direct linking except for jk-forum sponsors.

Thanks.

Dstock and I have been talking....as it happened to my JKU (hard top) and my Dodge Ram 3500 CTD on the same night at the beginning of Jan this year and I know we locked both vehicles and had the stock alarm system set on both. They broke in without setting off the alarm systems on both vehicles. WTF???

They rampaged through my glove box, and consoles and stole ipods, my kids DVD players & my daughters snowboard. That same night several vehicles were broken without setting off alarms. There was no evidence of damaged doors, or window moldings or key locks, no fooling around with my hood or battery. I figure it was a slim jim used like tow truck owners/employees unlock locked in keys for most vehicles.

I am leaning towards getting the 2way compustar alarm system that is good for 5000ft for both my vehicles to notify when someone is breaking into my vehicles so I can catch them in the act at my home. It is a total piss off with these low life scum.

I merely voiced an opinion after reading how many ways they can be defeated. If I had as many mods on my Jeep as you have on yours, I would want something more reliable. If if works for you, then great!

factory system work with door open censors, you can add what ever you want on the door censor circuit a long as it open a ground. See this how-to for adding proximity censor to the factory alarm:

To be honest anything that travel by radio signal in the open air is a weakness, in the digital work it the equivalent of yelling your password this is true for alarm, garage door opener and more. encrypting the signal will just slow down the attackers.

If they want it, they will get it, or beak it
