Factory Alarm - How does it work and how did thieves get around it?

Don't buy the Mopar hood lock unless it has been revised. I tried one. Nice that it can be keyed to the ignition key but bad in that I could pop the rubbers, lift the hood a fraction and push the hood latch and open the hood. The dealer refunded my money.

I had my JKU broken into during the second week of December 2010. Son of a bitch just jammed a pry-bar into the passenger window/door joint and pry until the glass broke. Doors were still locked and unopened...the factory alarm doesn't go off unless they open a door. Overall $2200 in damage, only to empty out my glove box & console and find nothing worth more than $10 in total (my 8 year old 2GB ipod, and my dollar-store ratchet wrench with a torx socket I used for the hardtop bolts). I'm just glad I took the GPS out the night before. Damn thieves.

Sorry to hear another horrible story about break-ins.
My 2008 Accord's alarm was pretty picky. I couldn't unlock it from the inside via electronic locks without my alarm going off. As soon as i pressed the lock it started yelping at me. Maybe they unzipped your windows, crawled in and when they were done they zipped the windows back? If you're saying there's no sign of forced entry or everything under the hood was not tampered with. Maybe the alarm in the JK's have a slight bug in them every once in a while, and they got lucky that the alarm didn't go off when they opened your door?
Hopefully you'll catch them in the act and give them a stern ass-kicking.

Ditto
I had a Mopar alarm installed in my jeep a month or 2 after I bought it in 2007 from the same dealer I got it from. i picked it up from the shop and drove it home. Once i got there I decided to test it out a bit more. I sent the alarm and opened the door and it went off. I tried it a second time and i tried opening the door really soft like. It didnt go off that time. I played around with the alarm over the next week with my hard top on and also my softtop. It seemed that to get the alarm to fire you really had to slam doors at least somewhat hard. I could unzip my bikini top no problem and could basically take the entire thing off before the alarm would sound. After reading the manual I found that you can adjust the sensitivity of the alarm. I would suggest you try that approach. I never did find a sensitivity leve that was completely satisfactory to me. My conclusion... always lock everything up in the glove box and center console.

Any more simple break in methods we'd like to post for the general public?
Very dissappointed to see this "how to" thread on disabling the alarm in my goddamn Jeep.
WA is a dangerous state to be breaking into cars with a hundred thousand active military troops and LEO's in plain clothes.
Chances are one of them owns the Jeep with a silent alarm your breaking into and has a legal firearm on thier person.

I always had the top and doors off my Willy's so i got used to never keeping anything in the jeep to tempt evil people. also... the bestop hard security truck was a great way to keep your valuables safe in "non power locking" vehicles cause they would have still needed a key to get in there. Now that I have a hard top with power everything i hope the little red blinky light does the trick hahaha.
Im thinking about getting these though.... they need another key but i can just keep that in the center console. They look like the best hood locking option in my book and they still look stock...ish.
