Factory Alarm - How does it work and how did thieves get around it?

That sucks! sorry for the loss!
is there a way to add a mercury swith to the hood?
I have remote start with a hood switch, to tell the remote start that the hood is open or closed, maybe that can be wired in?

Easy enough to figure out. Somebody go out to your JK, sit in your driver's seat, lock the doors with the fob, wait a couple of seconds for the system to fully arm, reach over and unlock the doors with the switch on the door, and see if it triggers the alarm.
I am running a Viper alarm that controls my locks, instead of the factory fob. So I cannot perform this test myself.
I had one installed in mine, but it works with an aftermarket Viper alarm. Not sure how you would hook one up in conjunction with the stock alarm ........... A hood lock is also a great idea.

Guys, the key fob you have for opening the door is only that. If someone breaks into the door and opens it, there is an alarm that will sound. This is totally generic and junk. Do not get a false sense of well being. It's mostly for electronically opening and closing your door.
What you need or must have is a secondary alarm system Ie: Viper etc. Viper's are nice because you can tack on an auto start function and window opening device. There are others that will do the same.
I learned this the hard way of course. I had a 2005 Harley Davidson Ford F250 truck stolen right in front of my house one night. I had the key fob thing and thought that was an alarm. NO IT IS NOT. They were on camera doing this too. They pulled up next to the truck. They used a signal generator, 20 seconds later I see the cab light go on, the guy jumps into the truck, 10 seconds later he's driving it away.
It's that easy.

Any more simple break in methods we'd like to post for the general public?
Very dissappointed to see this "how to" thread on disabling the alarm in my goddamn Jeep.
WA is a dangerous state to be breaking into cars with a hundred thousand active military troops and LEO's in plain clothes.
Chances are one of them owns the Jeep with a silent alarm your breaking into and has a legal firearm on thier person.

I guess you should remove your location, so they can't find you. And remove your sig, because they use that to shop for parts to steal. And don't post pix of your license plate, because they can track you down that way too.
If they want to steal something, they will. I don't think anybody posted anything new in this thread that every meth-head thief doesn't already know.
