Factory Alarm - How does it work and how did thieves get around it?
My JK was broken into this weekend. Factory alarm did not sound and there is no evidence of how the thieves were able to defeat it. Passenger front door was found partially closed.
How is this possible?
Oh and did I mention? The ass-clowns also stole my gf's Cherokee!!!!! Granted it did not have an alarm.
Anyone have any ideas? I know I am not the first to have this issue.
Thanks.

I just read somewhere that the tire sensors can be hacked with a laptop and the alarm disabled, also the brakes, and the ecu. Easiest way I could think of would be to pop your hood and disconnect the battery. No batt = no alarm.

Everything was intact under the hood, nice layer of dirt in the engine compartment was undisturbed, otherwise I agree, this would be the easiest way.

Agreed, but since they didn't touch the battery and I have a hardtop...wtf? Maybe a rolling RF transmitter to defeat the alarm I guess?

I had a civic that was broken into in 2000 and they were able to run a coat hanger/crack of window at the top in and hit the electronic lock. If you unlock from the inside after locking the vehicle with the FOB, the system thinks something opened from the inside/no big deal and it doesn't go off. That's how mine was done-

Maybe they were able to use something as simple as a coat hanger to hit the power lock switch to unlock the doors. Not sure if this would trigger the alarm or not.
If they didn't disturb the battery, did they cut the wire(s) to your horn? This would keep you from hearing the alarm when it was tripped.
Most thieves aren't going to invest money into scanners and code grabbers. Coat hangers, slim-jims, box cutters and rocks are far cheaper and just as effective.
I hope they find the scum that broke into / stole your things.
