Default Dry Start, how can you tell?

Hey guys

Stupid question.

I was reading a few posts, and people have been mentioning dry starts. How can you tell, if your Jeep is dry starting? Thanks!

You can hear the valves tapping when you first start it up. The sound only lasts for a few seconds at start.

Is it like a belt-type sound for approx 1 second?

I'm having this every so often, and only when engine is cold.

Put a Mobil 1 filter on, wait a few hundred miles, and you'll have it. It's due to poor anti drainback valves letting the oil drain out of the heads overnight. Mopar and Fram (use the extended guard) filters generally don't allow for dry starts.

I have a mobil 1 filter on my jeep right now and have been running it for about 2000k. Havent had any of these dry start problems.

I've heard this a few times in the past few weeks. Is this a problem brewing or just something that happens sometimes?

I'm using a Mobile 1 oil filter and Royal Purple oil.
My personal preference is to use a good quality oil filter and a great syn oil.
Look at all the high performance race cars/truck. They all use syn oil, and most likely a high qulity filter. ( Even though it's a short race )
I work in a chemical plant and I've learned that the life of any motor or equipment
is taking care to use and also change out the fluids.
. . . . .I've not experienced the dry start yet. And per the Jeep maintenance book, I still continue to use the recommended 5W-20W oil. No oil consumption problems.

Not telling you how to live your life but...

I got a Mobil filter once. It was on my JK for 2 days. I pulled it off, threw it in the trash, installed a Bosch and topped my oil off again. Valves tapping for 2 seconds at EVERY start is not a good thing and it does hurt over time.
