I gave up, too, when I tried this a couple years ago. Since then, the following video has been made available. Check it out before you go at it again:

I'm curious when was the last year the windshield was easily lowered and didn't look odd being down? Is the JK the first model where it's clear Jeep decided that the ease of lowering the windshield didn't matter? Was it easy on a TJ?

ive taken down 2 windshields it takes forever and because of the curvature of the windshield you see less around the hood. if i ever do it again its 4 more torx bolts and the windshield comes completely off

I don't think I'll ever bother folding the windshield on the JK down

IIRC, the manual suggests driving only off-road and not over something like 5-10 mph with the windshield down.
anyone drive windshield up --> but without putting those two side-bars back on?
(obviously it would give you less structural protection in case of a roll over)
(but it looks cool with the bars off)
I haven't tried it. Thoughts?

x2 on the TJ windshield being way easier to fold. Also, curved windshield or flat windshield... they ALL look funny/wierd when folded down! But its a jeep thing, and its cool either way.
