I would guess the retaining clip either broke or fell off inside the door at some point. It is funny that it just "fell out" in the driveway. Should be easy enough to remove the interior door panel to access it. I am kind of anti dealership unless its a warranty issue they are fixing for free.

hopefully its under warranty.
if not, you have to get a new clip (or open up the inner door and hope the clip is in there)
Its not hard but it is involved to remove the latch and get into where the retaining clip goes.
Google "K6860781" and you will find a PDF of the assembly instructions for the half door kits.
then backtrack through the instructions to get to the cylinder retainer.

My drivers side lock did the same thing but it was my fault... embarassing story. Moral of story, always have a second key available. Anyway, dealer charged me $170 to fix it (no warranty). Doors are nowhere near as easy to take apart these days. The guts of the JK door is a complete module that is tricky to get out if you haven't done it before.

Yeah I'm anti-dealership as well because I'm stationed in Germany and I don't think that the place in the nearby town will aknowledge my warranty. (I bought the Jeep on base) Thanks for all the info fellas and I'll probably try and dissasemble the door and hope that the clip is still there.

This happend to me as well when I repainted the heep, I put the metal thingy on backwards. it's a super easy fix, but taking the inner panel out to get to it sucks. There are a few threads on how to do that. the clip is a couple of bucks at the dealer if you don't have it anymore.
