Disconnecting the swaybar

I've never heard of this, you're just disconnecting the bolt at the bottom of the link and swinging it up.

Unbolting the sway bar link was the sway bar disconnect before sway bar disconnects were ever made..

I used this method on my TJs, in fact, you can go to the local Tractor Supply store and pick up hitch pins to replace the bolts with and make your own disconnects for about $5.

Just a warning...
Just a warning when you do this, we popped 2 tires when we disconnected our stock swaybar. The swaybar itself shifted an inch or so, which was just enough to cause the tire to grab the link and pop the tire when in a full turn Remember, most people only have 1 spare tire

Yah, noticeable difference. I've wheeled while connected accidentally a few times. On the Rubicon with the push button, I've forgotten to push the button, then wondered why something that I expect to be easy is challenging.
