2 Questions. How often are you guys replacing your diff fluids? Also, is there any special fluid I should put in? I don't have a Rubi, just a X. I do go through water crossings fairly often and I'm sure the axle has been submerged a couple times. Not sure though. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

 

That depending on what schedule you are on, A or B. If you are on B like most of us are (i.e. wheel you Jeep a lot), then you will want to service your diff fluids every 15,000 miles. I use a good synthetic 75W90 gear lube like Royal Purple but Mobile1 is really good too

Synthetic in the diff is a good thing.
Although I havn't changed the JK's yet, as it only went over 6K, I plan on Amsoil 75/90 when the time comes.

 

There is no drain plug. Only a fill plug. You have to crack the cover (and then change the gasket) to drain it. Might as well hit the whole thing with brake cleen too while the cover is off. I usually do.

 

No true at all. The new JK's do come with drain plugs now and it's located on the base of the diff (on the driverside up front and passenger side on the rear) and requires a 3/8" drive ratchet to remove just like the fill plug...

 

Here in Florida we hit alot of water. I chage it every time I go out and it is sloppy, or there is alot of deep water. I've seen a few sets of gears and lockers go bad from water and mud. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

 

Thanks for spotting this! The jeep was just in for the recall and soft top leak and they looked at the maintenance schedule. They noticed i was doing all the regular stuff but haven't done the diff. fluids yet. Tried telling my wife the warranty would be void if it wasn't done. Thank god she said i was going to do it cuz they wanted to charge just over $200 to do it

 

I love how those dealerships just throw out a magical number when they're charging for work.. I cant believe they would charge $200 to open a plug let it drain then fill it up again....thats just an insult in my opinion
