additive I assume u are talkin about jk with track lock rear axles ones with clutches, as the rubicon doesn't have it is open until u flick the switch and it electro-mechanically locks. additive is not required for axles unless there is a tag attached to the diff cover housing that states additive required and then gives details about rear axle.

Limited slip diffs require an additive. Something to do with the clutch mechanism.

yes, thats the additive Im talking about. I know for sure mobil one has it in it and Im pretty sure Royal Purple and Amsoil does too. Check out their websites and look up gear oil, it will tell if it does or doesnt have the limited slip additive.

It's not that I CAN'T do it.. i'm concerned about voiding warranty.. say I have a problem down the road, they could give me the run around couldn't they? Show them a receipt for some diff oil??

It says in the manual "Trac-Lock" requires additive

right..... which most synthetics already have in them......sometimes you will still get some chatter from the rear, so you might have to still add some of the friction additive, but most of the time the additive in the synthetics is enough.

And when the dealer told me that I needed the diff. fluid changed, and how much it was, I told him I was going to do it myself. They said oh ok..just keep the receipts for the warranty.
Its crazy how much they want to do it. For the price the dealer wanted, I got Solid Diff covers, lube lockers, and lunch.

Just keep your receipts and you'll be fine. You should consider changing dealers if you think yours is like that. The fact of the matter is that if they want to give you crap about the warranty then they'll find something.
