Default Diff fluid

I have a 2007 jk coming up on 75000km and the main sked says to change the diff fluid. What oil is the best brand and viscosity? Front and rear? I don't go offloading and don't tow anything maybe a boat to the cottage once a year. Also seen some vids where guys remove the case and spray with brake clean and new gasket and all that. They say its only necessary to drain and refill is that true?

If you have "Limited Slip Differential " rear axel, it requires special lubricant. Your Owners Manual will tell you what fluids , and how much. Your bulid sheet/ window sticker or vin # will tell you if you have "anti-spin" rear (LSD)

I'm running Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90, but here is a write-up if you plan to do a whole new cover/gasket/etc: Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » Jeep JK Wrangler SOLID Differential Cover Installation

Redline synthetic is good, it's got the additive in it already for limited slip.

If there are no signs of "seepage" around you diff covers then don't worry about doing a full teardown. That being said if you do see oil spots around the bottom of your diffs you might as well changes them and get some fresh gasket in there.

The weight of the gear oil is dependent on you and your driving habbits as well as climate can also play into it.

I drive an 07 jk with 4.10 gears in Jax FL...... My Owners manual says to put 140 weight oil because it has the tow package, i don't tow things (if i do its very short distance ) and since these little kids are around i don't really hit the trails hard either so i run a 75weght.. at my next change it will be the full tear down though as its time and i'm starting to see some seepage. Going to clean up my diff covers (rust) and hit them with a proper painting.

As far as best brand i'd go with any name brand synthetic, IMO Royal purple can't be beat but i've used others in the past with no ill performance...

Default Differential Fluid

Go with Mobil 1 75W90 Synthetic....About $10 per quart.
