Death wobble

Death wobble
Just had first experience with DW. Wondering if I can just replace the bolts on the TB with the bigger 9/16 grade 8 bolts and that will fix it and also would it be worth it to replace the bushings as well or am I going to just have to buy a whole new TB. Only reason I ask is I finally got the money for new tires and if I have to invest in a new TB right now then I gotta wait on tires and that's not cool.

You could drill it out and replace it with a bigger bolt if you like. People usually do that because the hole is oblong from the track bar wobbling and widening the hole. Have someone turn the steering wheel left and right while you are underneath and check for any loose steering components. It would suck to drill out a hole and that doesn't even fix it. Always pays off to be sure about what if causing the problem. Hope this helps!!!

Your holes are already 9/16". No need to drill.
Watch the 2 YouTube videos in my Diagnosing Death Wobble thread and read the first few post of the thread. Perform the inspections. Fix whats wrong.

I would also add to not get too caught up on the track bar. I have had the wobble on three different jeeps ( five times total) and it was never the track bar. It caused a lot of frustration as that is the easiest part to replace/fix. Check the sway bar links they tend to break easy and they can sometimes look fine because the weight of the jeep makes them look seated properly. I can give you some other thoughts if needed just let me know

Replacing with the grade 8 9/16 bolts is a good idea no matter what you find your problem to be.

Sway bar links? I know people that drive around with them off completely and they never have problems. Follow planmans step by step instructions and you'll find you problem. He's got a great write up on here with videos. You'll find your problem.

While to track down the issue. Turned out to be loose bolts on my control arms and a wore TB bushing. Work your way up and I'm pretty sure u will find the culprit.

It's an 08, yeah its about that time. It wasn't that expensive to fix. I had the upper control arm bushing torn up pretty bad on the axle end. Just spent the day replacing all 8 with Energy Suspension and making sure I torqued them right. PS: I thought the uppers and lowers were the same.

Besides the sway bar links it has been control arm bushings the other two times (on an 06 and 08). Getting poly bushings is nice either way (especially with oversized tires)
I remember how scared I was to drive to work...I would get home and try to isolate and fix one step. I would drive to work and have the wobble(still)...white knuckle and pale. Try again the next day to no avail. I did not watch the video....but I know how scary and hopeless it can be...like I said if you want to talk or shoot ideas feel free. After 5 wobbles I feel I can offer some advise.
