Dead at 34K
Well, I guess its my turn. 34,000 miles, mostly highway, and not a single mechanical problem. Nothing. Has always run like a top. Never burned even a quart of oil between changes. Then, this weekend, driving down a local dirt road, the dash lit up like a christmas tree and the motor shut down. I checked everything out, all the fluids were good, no odd odors, so I gave it a few minutes and tried turning it over. Started right up, sounded fine, no lights on the dash, so I let it idle for about 5 minutes, and all seemed fine. With all the electronic issues I've heard of, I figured it was a quirk, and turned around and headed home, just in case it gave me any more problems. Everything was fine for about 3 miles, downhill, at 20 mph, when the same thing happened again, accompanied by a cloud of white smoke from under the hood, a strong burning electrical odor and the sound of a hand full of loose nuts and bolts going through the motor. I had it hauled to the dealer, anticipating the worst, and they just called and confirmed that I need a new motor. They haven't given me the details yet, as I'm sure they haven't dug in too deep, but its dead. They suggested I get my maintenance documentation together, and said they will follow up tomorrow. I have 4 of the oil change receipts, did at least one myself, and it had about 5K when I bought it from the dealer, so I should be ok there. But, after everything I've heard and read, I'm getting ready for a long process. Any advice from anyone who has been through this is welcomed. I've read lots of threads regarding motor issues and warranty issues, so I have some idea what's in store.

the motor blew up in my 2010 jku with 500 miles on it! they had it back to me in a week with a brand new motor in it! it took 3 days to get the motor and 1 day to put it in. they took the old motor out while waiting for the new one.
