Default Curious Question..

So i was just looking at offroading videos and for some reason i found a video of a 07, 08, and an 09 that all caught on fire, and all in the same way, has anyone figured out how often this happens, and if there is a way to remedy it? (i know, i know, extinguisher, already covered)

Coming from a guy who is laid out for the next couple weeks with 2nd degree burns, fire extinguishers are always a good idea.

I believe you are talking debris getting stuck in the skid. The debris would dry out, come in contact with the exhaust and catch on fire.

There are a number of threads on this, including some from members whose Jeep burned to the ground. The Cliff notes version:

1. This is a problem for Jeeps with automatic trannys. As someone has already noted, Chrysler has a recall to activate some type of warning light.

2. The problem with the warning light is it doesn't stop your Jeep from being susceptible to the problem. It just tells you you're overheating it and you need to take action to stop that. So many folks are installing a tranny cooler.

Here's one thread--like I said, there are a number of these ...

Well that's helpful, but sorta a pain..I would have thought someone would have made a protective covering for the area between the exhaust and a debris accumulating area on the skid.

I'm glad I have a 6speed. I need to now check the skid for stuff stuck in it near my exhaust - and YES I do carry a fire extenguisher. I hope I don't need to use it!
