Cracked front windshield....Did this happen to you??

I've used the chip repair service...a place called Glass Doctor. It cost me $20 to get a rather deep, dime sized chip repaired. Due to the concave shape of the chip, you could still see it after it was fixed, but I've had the windshield through 2 really cold winters already and the chip repair has held up perfectly. Had I just left it and not had it repaired, I would be looking at a serious crack in my windshield by now. As of now, other than that one repair, my windshield is still in perfect condition. I would say the repair is well worth it if your windshield only has the one or two chips and hasn't cracked yet. It's crack prevention.

I had a ding on the top of the widshield, in the black part. My wife started the jeep up in the morning, started driving, and CRAAAAAAACK, right down in front of the drivers view point. Not going to replace yet, as we have gravel on the roads in the winter.
Sucks balls though. $150 for a new one....not bad, but still.....

Got a chip from a rock on the way home from hunting camp on Tuesday. They're supposed to come fix it this Monday, I'm hoping it doesn't crack between now and then since it got colder out around here. I have about 1600 miles on it.

The last rock that was the death of my windshield actually stopped on the glass for a few seconds so I could at least observe the offender.
Also, just wanted to stop for a minute and offer a toast to the rock chip gods.........
Oh rock chip gods, may you have mercy on my windshield, my future windshields the windshields of my fellow Jeep brethren, and their future windshields.......
--Toast-- <beer>

Wow!
This is a disconcerting thread for us newbies!
I would think that since our Jeeps have a much more upright (less angled) windshield they would be more vulnerable to damage from flying gravel, stones, etc. . . . . BUT . . .
Is it the group's opinion that the original windshield glass is inferior to any replacement glass?
(In the meanwhile, I'll be careful not to blast the defroster when it gets really cold).
All best, and thanks,
Joe
