Default Couple of questions about wheels and tires

I would like to get some 255 size tires but I'm running 16" wheels, will I need to get 17" wheels or can I stay at 16". I want to get a lift 2.5 but thats going to have to wait for now. What would be the best size wheel to run with. I have a 09x 2door with 3.73 gears (for now). Oh and would 255s give me any rubbing without a lift. And what about the computer getting use to the way I drive, I only have a little over 600mi right now. If I get diff size tires would the computer reajust to the new tires alright.

Are you definitely keeping your 16" wheels? If so, you should be able to run 255/70/R16 with no problems. It is wider than your 225's (obviously), and a little bit taller as well, from 29.3" (225's) to 30.1" (255's). This new size is still smaller than the stock 255/75/R17, which measures 32.06", therefore no lift necessary.

Your computer will still adjust fine as far as driving style, but it will not correct for the larger size (your speedo and odometer would be off about 2.6% too slow). You could probably have the dealer re-flash for the size difference, or buy one of several programmers from the aftermarket.

FWIW, a 255/85-16 is almost a 33". Basically, 33x10-16. Looks pretty good.

Not sure if your stuck on the 255 width but a 265/75/16 is a pretty common size tire and is just under 32" tall. Thats what I put on mine without any other changes(except a recalibrate by the dealer) and have no issues at all. One thing you have to remember about going with an odd size tire like a 255/70/16 or a 255/85/16 is that they are more than likely going to be a special order tire for any tire shop. So if you are in a pinch and need one quick they arent going to have anything close in stock. Those odd sizes can sometimes be discontinued without warning as well.

I'm pulling the trigger on some 265-75-16's on Monday for my 2dr unlifted X

The specs I saw show an overall diameter of just under 32"

From what I've read here there should be no problems with rubbing.

I hope this is right. I'm not really interested in a lift for now.

So are 265/75/16 the same as stock. When I compare sizes at www.1010tires.com to my 225/75/16's I get a nasty message,(when changing tire size we recommend staying within 3% of the diameter of the original tire. any more and you face the risk of break failure.) I'm looking for something like 32's, then I'll probably regear before a lift.

Trust me, you'll be just fine with the 265/75R16's...that's what I switched to from the stock 225/75R16's. The overall diameter is almost as tall as the 255/75R17's that come on most JK's including the Rubicon...so no issues with rubbing and it won't cause any problems with your brakes because all JK's have the same brakes.

Here's mine with the 265's and no lift:
