LORRELL: I must correct you here. Mobile 1 gold cap full syn is ester and pao. Mobile 1 silver cap is hydrocracked group III dino with pao added. True, gold cap has been "true syn" for a long time, which is why it costs more. Cost is comparable to Amsoil "full syn". Amsoil also makes a hydrocracked group III to meet "API" requirements. In other words "American Petrolium Institute" standards. API doesn't endorse non petrol product. You need to read and understand the advertisments. If a product has the "esters", they're going to advertise it as "truly full syn" and good for 15 - 25K. When its dino based, they say "change at the manufacturer's recommendations as with the Mobile 1 silver cap. Mobile 1 silver cap is superior to "conventional" oils as it does have paos that improve the stability of the oil at cold pour point as well as high temp viscosity. It's all I use. This comes from a court ruling a few years back of "Mobile vs Castrol" because Castrol intoduced its syntec as full syn when it was group III hydro. They argued that the dino refining process was so intense that it was by no way recognizable as "natural". The court agreed. Mobile 1 has the silver cap "dino" syn to be cost competitive and to meet API standards.

The 0/20 and 5/20 brand of Mobil 1 did not show up, but I do believe both fall into the same catogory as the 5/30.
Also I roger you on the lawsuit. Because of that suit, most oil companies did in fact revert to using a group 111 base stock. Amsoil ASL brand and Mobil 1 did not.
