Changing from 18" to 17" tires?
I need new tires, and have been going through the posts of those selling. I am currently running 18s but notice a lot of people selling 17s with rims.
Can I just take off the 18s and replace them with the 17s without having to do anything else? What will that do to my speedometer?
Thanks.

Changing wheel (rim) diameter will not effect your speedometer alone......it really depends on what tire diameter you want to run and what the back spacing on the wheel would be, if you have a lift or not, etc. Can you give some more specifics about your rig and what tire/wheel you are moving from and to?

I went from my stock Sahara 18's to 17's... I run 255/75/17 (BFG MT) on Pro Comp Wheels. Height is identical to stock 18's.
The only thing you may want to do is purchase TPMS if you are getting aftermarket wheels (got a set of 4 take-offs from ebay for $70).

I dropped down from the stock 18 Sahara wheels to an aftermarket 17 due to bigger & wider mud tire prices. But wanted a 16" but could not find a nice rim I liked in a 16 at the time.........18's mud tires= way to expensive 17's mud tire= a bit cheaper.
You won't have problems going to a smaller rim and sticking with a similar overall diameter tire.

That's roughly a 32" tall by 10.5" wide tire (actual diameter/width will depend on specific brand). If you put a comparable size on a 17" wheel, no speedo/rubbing worries at all. If you go larger diameter or wider, then you may have the need to recalibrate the speedo and/or use spacers.
Hope this helps.

Maybe you can give me some advice 2 month old wrangler JK.Stock no lift.Have tp speak to the dealer here to see if I can add the daystar 1 3/4"lift with out affecting the warranty. But for now
I would like to put on 18 x 8.5 offset +32 ultra thunder wheels with 275 65 18 wrangler mtr/kevlar
or Bridgestone dueler revoII's.
The only thing I am worried about is how stiff the wranglers will be(It is my first choice)
I have read some other posts that I can go up to the size I want without rubbing on stock wheels
Do you know about these size rims If I would get any rubbing or other issues
Thanks
