Thanks Rubidozer, those do help alot. I really couldnt picture what you where saying.
I couldnt find any images in the manual of that area that where clear.
I can see the "missing paint" issues springing up again, maybe these should be edited for national security or something though :toung:
In the manual under "Body - Interior - Load floor" you can almost see them, but it appears in the manual that they are more where the tabs for the hinge on the rear compartment cover go.

the pictures aren't showing up right now. but basically, go out to your JK and open the tailgate. look at your rear storage compartment door. it lifts, so it must be on hinges. find those hinges. just forward of them, near each hinge, you'll find a small cutout in the carpet. dig your finger in and lift that cutout; you'll see a slot. that's where the mythical D-ring should go. also, you'll notice just aft of that flap that there's a lip in the carpet that you can lift to get a more global look of the area where you'll find a small round hole near each of the slots to secure the D-ring with a nut.

Actually, now that I look at that, something else comes to mind. I think that the missing screw for the tie down is supposed to secure in the storage lid too. Otherwise it could be just yanked up with the gate closed. I suppose someone could just unscrew it anyway, or even just break it since it is just plastic.
